Beyond repair
I eNJoyed adele Cooke’s article on the Market Harborough repair cafe (Money Mail).
I have been in business repairing electrical equipment for more than 50 years, during which time the whole range of TV, radio, video and domestic appliances has passed through my shop. The changes in design, build quality and technology have been staggering.
The Government’s ‘right to repair’ rules may go some way to ensuring a
supply of replacement parts but we now live in a throwaway society.
The younger generation don’t repair anything, so the skills required are long gone and items are not made to be repaired. We are too far down the line for manufacturers to change back to making things that last and are repairable, which is why most repair shops have disappeared.
