ENGLAND WANT MEDALS FOR TOPLEY AND JONNY

ENGLAND will ask the ICC to award the injured Reece Topley and Jonny Bairstow Twenty20 World Cup winners medals.

Topley was ruled out when he damaged ankle ligaments stepping on a boundary marker before a warm-up match against Pakistan while Bairstow suffered a broken leg in a golfing accident. Coach Matthew Mott said: ‘Reece was a big part of our preparations. Him and Jonny were the first ones I thought of after we won.’

Mott also expressed sympathy for Mark Wood and Dawid Malan, who were left out of the final despite declaring themselves fit to play.
