Mendy ponders Blues exit

- SAMI MOKBEL

EDOUARD MENDY’S Chelsea future is in doubt, with the goalkeeper considering a move away from stamford Bridge amid concerns about his first-team prospects. The senegal international has been a major success at Chelsea since his £22million arrival from rennes in 2020. But his status as the Blues’ no 1 has been thrown into doubt since manager Thomas Tuchel was sacked and replaced with Graham Potter in september.

Kepa arrizabalaga started the Potter reign in goal, when Mendy had a knee injury. But Mendy has started Chelsea’s last four matches, three of which they lost, and the goalkeeper remains hopeful he can convince Potter he deserves to be first choice. But there are fears the Chelsea manager has already decided arrizabalaga — fitness permitting — will be his first choice again when the Premier League resumes next month. Potter is also interested in raiding his former club Brighton for their goalkeeper robert sanchez.
