SACK RONALDO

United bidding to dump star over his explosive interview... and Bayern could offer him way out

- By CHRIS WHEELER

MANCHESTER UNITED are exploring ways of sacking Cristiano Ronaldo over his bombshell interview with Piers Morgan.

It is understood that lawyers for United are studying Ronaldo’s claims that he feels betrayed by the club and has no respect for manager Erik ten Hag, to see if this constitutes a breach of his contract. United are waiting to view the rest of the interview, which airs tomorrow and Thursday, and issued a statement yesterday saying that the club ‘will consider its response after the full facts have been established’.

Another option being considered is for United and Ronaldo to agree to rip up the player’s £500,000-a-week deal so that he can leave as a free agent. However, Old Trafford chiefs are reluctant to give the 37-year-old star (right) a pay-off or subsidise his wages at another club for the rest of the season, because it would be seen as rewarding disloyalty.

Sources said last night the least likely outcome is that Ronaldo returns to United after the World Cup and plays for Ten Hag again. His agent Jorge Mendes is looking for a new club and it has emerged that the pair met officials from German champions Bayern Munich last week.
