Now BA travellers could fly abroad without even showing a passport
PASSENGERS flying with British Airways may no longer have to show a passport before boarding international flights.
The airline is trialling new biometric technology which requires travellers to scan their face, ID and boarding pass before leaving the house.
Holidaymakers will only need to show their face to a camera once they’ve reached the airport gate, which will verify their identity in under three seconds and allow them on board.
A six-month pilot has been launched at Heathrow Terminal 5 for passengers flying to Malaga, Spain. BA said for the first time customers would be able to enrol from the ‘comfort of their own homes’ and keep their passport ‘safely in their pocket until reaching their destination’.
David Breeze, from BA, added: ‘This is a secure and efficient tool that makes for a smarter and smoother airport experience, which will reduce the time it takes us to board aircraft.’ Participants who take part will get priority boarding.
