Happy clappers
DURING the excellent multifaith service at the end of Saturday evening’s Remembrance event, people clapped after the first hymn, Jerusalem, had been sung.
I had an intimation of this change in the public attitude to worship recently myself. Some weeks ago, as a minister, I was asked to conduct prayers at the start of a local residents’ meeting. I was very pleased to do so. However, I was rather taken aback to be clapped at the end.
So things have changed. However, a bit of joy in this unhappy world is not to be sneezed at, even if it may be a surprise to us ‘oldies’. ANDREW McLUSkEY,
