Peston’s scruff shoe shuffle

AS THE political editor at ITV News, Robert Peston is suited if not always booted on screen. And his dress sense was called into question when he went for lunch at a gentlemen’s club in London recently.

His trainers were deemed too scruffy, so he had to borrow a pair from a staff member in order to be admitted. Peston, 62, says he was slightly embarrassed. ‘I felt very stupid,’ he tells me. ‘I would have gone elsewhere if my host had not already ordered our lunch.’ Even Robert Peston doesn’t turn down a free lunch!
