CRACKING NEW COMEDY

-

The Horne Section TV Show, 10pm, Ch4

ALEX HORNE (pictured) created Taskmaster, but you’d never know it to watch the show. Greg Davies always introduces him as ‘little Alex Horne’, and his subservience to the towering Taskmaster is a running joke. The premise of this new, six-part scripted comedy is the logical next step in that joke, with Horne trying to step out from Davies’s shadow and host his own talk show, along with his real-life band, The Horne Section — all of whom play themselves in the awkward madness that follows. A fictional chat show is the perfect vehicle for celebrities to send themselves up, and Martin Kemp does a great job of that in the second of tonight’s double bill (‘get me some sushi. I need a lot of sushi’), but no one does it better than Davies, who has a whale of a time playing himself as a true showbiz monster. All six episodes are on All4.
