Don’t whinge, be proud

-

I HAVE just returned to Canada from a visit to the UK. From what I’d read and heard, I expected to find the British people depressed and stressed. Instead, everyone I encountered was happy, polite, helpful and seemingly enjoying life.

I travelled from Cornwall to Kent via London by National Express coach. It was comfortable, punctual and inexpensive, and the staff were invariably cheerful. So what’s your problem? Why are so many people running the country down?

Britain has contributed more to the modern world than any other country and still does. Be proud of your history and yourselves.

If you want to see long faces, poor customer service and pessimistic people, come to Canada. You don’t know how lucky you are.

ALAN HOLLEtt, Nova Scotia.
