Every little helps me cope

-

A PENSIONER has spoken of her relief that she will no longer lose out on hundreds of pounds a year in the state pension after Jeremy Hunt maintained the triple lock.

Veronica Fenn, 83, who lives alone in a flat in Putney, southwest London, said it was a ‘huge relief’ that her state pension will rise in line with inflation.

Miss Fenn, who brought up two children alone, receives £252 a week from pension and pension credit, plus a disability benefit.

She will also benefit from the additional cost of living support.

Miss Fenn will receive up to £1,350 under the scheme, which gives those on means-tested benefits a helping hand with energy bills. She said: ‘It helps a great deal. It is good to know what you’ve got coming in. I am just about OK, at least I know what I’ve got coming,’ she said.

‘Every little helps and you don’t know what is going to happen in the future.

‘If you haven’t got any assets, you are old and you are not working then they [the Government] will help to protect you.

‘It will ease the burden, it will no doubt help. Anything helps.’
