Musk to lift Twitter’s 280-character rule

-

ELON Musk has said he will allow Twitter users to post longer message after he scraps the pithy social network’s 280 character limit.

The billionaire told his followers yesterday the ‘ability to do long tweets [was] coming soon’, in a move that is part of his radical reconfiguration of the company.

He has also said he expected to reduce his time at Twitter and eventually find a new leader to run the social media company, adding that he hoped to complete an organisational restructuring this week.

Mr Musk made the remarks while testifying in a Delaware court in the US to defend against claims that his $56billion (£47billion) pay package at Tesla was based on easy to achieve performance targets and was approved by a compliant board of directors.

However, he later tweeted he will continue to run Twitter until it is in a strong place, though it will ‘take some time’. Mr Musk’s first two weeks as Twitter owner has been marked by rapid change and chaos. He quickly fired the previous chief executive and other senior leaders and then laid off half its staff earlier this month.
