Lovely letters

-

LIKE Imogen Cooper (Femail), I love writing letters and it’s great to know that some younger people do, too. I am of the older generation who always wrote thank-you letters and I still write to friends and family, using a fountain pen. My grandsons’ words written down mean so much more than an email or instant message, and they loved receiving my letters when they were at university. In his last year there, the younger one said: ‘You’ll still write letters, won’t you, Nana?’ I was happy to oblige.

My late daughter used to write to me every week, and I kept some of her letters. If I re-read them now, it’s as though she is speaking to me.

Sitting down with coffee and cake to read a letter you have received is one of the best feelings.
