Mould housing boss to keep job
THE family of a toddler who died from mould in his parents’ flat last night spoke of their disappointment at the housing boss’s refusal to quit.
Government minister Michael Gove this week told MPs it ‘beggars belief’ that the £185,000-ayear boss of Rochdale Boroughwide Housing had not stepped down over the scandal.
Awaab Ishak’s parents repeatedly complained to the housing association about the state of their one-bed flat. Awaab died in late 2020 from a respiratory condition caused by mould.
RBH chief executive Gareth Swarbrick apologised to Awaab’s family on Thursday but said: ‘Having spoken to the board, I can confirm that I will not be resigning.’
