. . . AND FOUND

-

IT’S been nearly a year since Bill Rogerson attempted to trace a long-lost mate of his, Freddie Waldgrun, with whom he grew up in the Stepney area of London’s East End in the 1950s and 1960s. He told us: ‘Our mums and dads were always working, so we used to get away with murder, skipping school and scamping about out on the streets. What little money we had we earned from doing odd jobs for the neighbours. We got our first proper jobs at 16 — Freddie worked at a local tailor’s shop and I got a job at a printing plant.

‘On weekends, we’d go to the West End and hang around at coffee bars, chat to pretty girls and listen to pop music. ‘I last saw Freddie in about 1982, when we were 30 or 31. There were house moves and sadly, the contact was lost. Now we’re in our 70s, and I’d love to reconnect.’ This search has taken so long because Freddie and his family emigrated to Canada in the 1980s. Feelers put out paid off when a relative was traced and responded with helpful info, thus reuniting the old pals. Never say never — that’s our motto here.
