Heroes step in after gunman kills 5 at gay club

-

A GUNMAN who killed at least five and injured 18 in an attack on a gay nightclub in Colorado on Saturday night was stopped from killing more by the ‘quick reactions of heroic customers’.

Colorado Springs Police Department chief Adrian Vasquez said yesterday that two people at the city’s Club Q confronted the gunman and stopped the shooting. ‘We owe them a great debt of thanks,’ he said.

The suspect, named as Anderson Lee Aldrich, 22, was taken into custody. Authorities are investigating whether the attack was motivated by hate.

Two firearms were found at the scene, and police said a long rifle was used in the rampage. They said the phone call to alert them came just before midnight and the suspect was apprehended within minutes.

The attack is the sixth mass killing in the US this month. President Joe Biden said last night: ‘We must drive out the inequities that contribute to violence against LGBTQI+ people. We must not tolerate hate.’
