Honorary Oscar for Fox the Parkinson’s crusader
BACK To The Future star Michael J Fox has received an honorary Oscar for his work to improve the lives of Parkinson’s sufferers.
The 61-year-old actor was presented with the award by his good friend Woody Harrelson, who starred alongside Fox in Doc Hollywood in 1991 – the year that he was diagnosed with the condition.
Fox embraced Harrelson as he was given the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award at the annual Governors Awards at Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles on Saturday night. He founded The Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research in 2000.
It has reportedly raised more than $1.5billion (£1.26billion) for research. His wife, actress Tracy Pollan, and their four children supported him at the ceremony.
