RICHARD WILSON, who plays Victor Meldrew, accused ITV of cheating yesterday in a ‘dirty tricks’ row over Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? The final episode of BBC1’s One Foot In The Grave was beaten in the ratings by Judith Keppel’s jackpot win. Wilson said: ‘It is ever so slightly suspicious that ITV had a millionaire winner the night of Victor’s death.’

SIR PETER HALL (1930-2017). The director from Suffolk, ‘the great theatrical buccaneer of the 20th century’, founded the Royal Shakespeare Company, then ran the National Theatre. Hall’s four wives included Gigi star Leslie Caron and opera’s Maria Ewing. His six children include Iron Man 3 actress Rebecca Hall. ROBERT VAUGHN (1932-2016). The U.S. actor played gunman Lee in The Magnificent Seven and Napoleon Solo in TVs The Man From U.N.C.L.E. The latter made him so famous that strolling by the lingerie department of an LA store, he recalled ‘running for my life, pursued by a posse of middle-aged matrons waving their newly bought underthings for me to autograph’. In 2012, he joined Coronation Street.
