SAINT CECILIA is the patron saint of music, and her feast day falls on the 22nd of November, helping to perk up a dark time of year. By happy chance, two great composers, Benjamin Britten and Joaquin Rodrigo, were born on this very day, so Sam Pittis plays Britten’s bright, cheerful A Young Person’s Guide To The Orchestra on a St Cecilia’s Day special of his drivetime show. A recording of the guitar maestro John Williams performing Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez, evoking warm, blossom-scented Spanish nights, is also on the bill.
