God knows when we’ll turn on the fire,

My sister won’t use her hairdryer.

We might have to settle To not use the kettle, And the iron might have to retire.

We’re trying to save on the light,

Only turn on the damn thing at night.

We often turn off in haste; It’s too pricey to waste, And our candles are lovely and bright.

I suppose we are where we are,

But we don’t like using the car.

What with the price of fuel, And the cost of our gruel, We won’t be going too far. Those trains are always on strike,

And we’re pestered to get on a bike,

Special lanes will provide, If you like a long ride, Though mending punctures is a major dislike.

We have to watch what we eat.

Hopefully something we don’t have to heat,

Say a pie or tinned rice, Now that would be nice, Weren’t Sunday dinners a treat!

And fish and chips — once a cheap meal,

With universal appeal, Is now classed as a treat, If you want something to eat.

But sit down when you look at the bill!

Let’s hope that we’re not going to panic.

It’s not like we’re on the Titanic.

Our boat might be sinking, But to my way of thinking, The world has gone mad — it’s all manic!
