HOUSEWIVES after the war will be able to buy a kitchen complete with every modern device. It will be an all- electric unit which can be plugged into one point like a radio. The U.S. ex-CEO of Enron had a number plate that read WLEC — for world’s largest energy company — before he was convicted on 19 charges, including conspiracy and insider trading. One of the u.S.’s biggest corporate scandals, it led to an estimated 21,000 redundancies, and was turned into the West End hit play Enron.
DOUGRAY SCOTT, 57. The Scottish actor, who starred in Mission: Impossible 2, was the favourite to replace Pierce Brosnan as James Bond before Daniel Craig got the part. Talking about a scene in This Year’s Love with Kathy Burke, he said it was ‘the best onscreen kiss I’ve ever had in my entire life’.

CATHERINE OF BRAGANZA (16381705). The daughter of King John Iv of Portugal married Charles II of England as part of an alliance between the two countries. She is thought to have brought with her the customs of afternoon tea and the drinking of port. Catherine bore no children, but Charles acknowledged at least 12 from his mistresses.
HELEN GAHAGAN DOUGLAS (19001980). The u.S. stage actress starred in only one Hollywood film — 1935’s She. Her portrayal of the villain (‘She who must be obeyed’) was inspiration for the Evil Queen in Disney’s Snow White And the Seven Dwarfs. Helen later became a politician.
