More drivers to pay £12.50 fee in London

-

HUNDREDS of thousands more drivers will have to pay a £12.50 daily fee to use London’s roads after Sadiq Khan announced a massive expansion of the ultra low emission zone.

The Labour mayor said extending the area to cover the capital’s outer boroughs from August 29 next year is ‘one of the toughest decisions’ he has taken – but will give five million Londoners cleaner air to breathe.

An estimated 160,000 cars and 42,000 vans will be liable to pay the fee each day. The RAC’s Nicholas Lyes said it was ‘a hammer-blow for desperate drivers and businesses already struggling with crippling fuel costs’.

Most diesel cars and vans registered from 2016 are exempt, as are petrol models dating from 2006.
