Plant of the week
HIPPEASTRUM ‘EVERGREEN’
HERE’S a whopper bulb with a difference. Often called amaryllis, Hippeastrum are bulbous plants originating from South America. They’re prized for the clusters of large, shapely flowers carried on thick stems. Those grow from huge bulbs, followed in spring by strap-like leaves.
If you fancy a change from the monster blooms, try Spider Group varieties. Those bear smaller flowers in larger numbers. Among them, H. Evergreen is a cool-looking beauty with clusters of soft, jade-green flowers. These plants are tender and must be kept indoors during winter.
