Suddenly the OneLove refs getting games!
FIFA have finally given a game to referees from ‘OneLove’ nations, the day after Sportsmail asked the World Cup organisers why they had been snubbing those officials. Germany’s Daniel Siebert will oversee Tunisia against Australia today — the 21st match of this World Cup — and Premier League referee Michael Oliver has been handed Japan v Costa Rica tomorrow. Englishman Anthony Taylor and Danny Makkelie of the Netherlands await their first assignments. Questions were asked of FIFA over their disregarding of Oliver, Taylor, Makkelie and Siebert. Seven ‘OneLove’ nations — England, Wales, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands — put their names to last week’s statement criticising FIFA for banning the anti-discrimination armbands. Some referees are now taking charge of their second games of this World Cup already with Italy’s Daniele Orsato, who oversaw the opener between Qatar and Ecuador, being selected for Argentina against Mexico tonight.
