FRIGHT NIGHT
England scarily poor in USA stalemate
ENGLAND were brought back down to earth with a familiar bump last night after a listless, goalless draw with the USA at the Al Bayt Stadium.
The nation was buzzing after the 6-2 romp against Iran but Gareth Southgate’s men lacked any spark or imagination against the Americans, who they have never beaten in the World Cup.
England may still require a point against Wales on Tuesday to be sure of a place in the last 16. Captain Harry Kane said: ‘It was not our best display, we didn’t have the final product, but we’re in control of the group.’
Wales’s hopes were left hanging by a thread after their shock 2-0 defeat against Iran. Gareth Bale’s side were outplayed in the second half and lost out to two late goals.
