RELATIONSHIP HISTORY

- Interviews: ALANA KIRK

I like museums and opera. Most men don’t tick all the boxes

She’s interesting and well-educated -- maybe too educated for me

I’VE been married twice, but single for the past ten years. I’ve dated a little bit and had a couple of short relationships in that time, but nothing too serious.

I like educated men who enjoy museums and the opera, so it can be hard to find someone who ticks all the boxes.

PRE-DATE NERVES?

NOT really, I was looking forward to it. I haven’t been on a blind date for many years, so I wanted to look and feel my best. I got dressed up in a smart frock and felt I looked good.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS?

KEVIN was in the restaurant already and he got up to greet me and gave me a kiss on each cheek.

I was relieved to see he was wearing a smart suit. he seemed friendly with a lovely, warm smile which put me at ease.

EASY TO TALK TO?

HE IS chatty and lots of fun, so we got on well as I’m quite similar. We talked about family, our marriages and divorces, children and all the usual life experience stuff.

I was impressed by how well travelled kevin is. he’s been everywhere! he told me he followed the england cricket team to a few exotic places and his dream is to go to Sri lanka.

We had a few laughs and chatted amicably, despite us leading quite different lives. I felt it was a very relaxed date.

EMBARRASSING MOMENTS?

NOT at all.

DID SPARKS FLY?

WE DIDN’T flirt really and there was no connection that I could feel, which was such a shame as we talked non-stop.

We caught the train together and when he got off, he left me with a kiss on the cheek.

We didn’t exchange numbers, though, and neither of us made a move to see each other again.

I liked the fact that he was so open and extroverted, but there was simply no chemistry.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO MEET HIM AGAIN?

I DON’T think he will ask! But I’d meet him as a friend.

WHAT DO YOU THINK HE THOUGHT OF YOU?

I DON’T know. I hope he thinks I was friendly, chatty and very good company.

WOULD YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS LIKE HIM?

OH YES, he’d get on with everybody as he’s such a lovely chap.

RELATIONSHIP HISTORY

I’VE been divorced twice. The first marriage lasted 24 years, and the second 11 months. There was no major fallout — it just didn’t work out and the split was amicable.

I’ve been single for nine years, and dabbled with dating apps, but nothing serious has come out of it. I hope I get to find love again — I’ve still got a lot of life to live and would like to share it with someone.

PRE-DATE NERVES?

NO, I was excited and made sure I was smart in a blue suit, pink shirt and Gucci shoes.

Even at my age I like to indulge in nice clothes, although I’m more of a Bicester village than a Bond Street man these days.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS?

WHEN she walked in, she seemed very friendly and I gave her a kiss on each cheek. I thought she was pretty, but I’m not sure either of us lit up with a feeling of actual attraction to each other. Still, we both engaged in the date well.

EASY TO TALK TO?

WE SPOKE about everything. Tisbeth is venezuelan and I love the fact that her older family members have lived well into their 90s.

The conversation was lighthearted. I’m chatty and she was lovely company. In fact, we were there for so long they had to move us because the table was needed.

EMBARRASSING MOMENTS?

A COUPLE of times there was an accent barrier — she couldn’t always understand my broad cockney accent and I struggled with her South American lilt.

DID SPARKS FLY?

NEITHER of us was flirting and there was no chemistry. She’s interesting and well- educated — maybe too much for me. We parted with a kiss on the cheek; neither of us suggested meeting again.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO MEET AGAIN?

I’M LOOKING for the right woman and need to concentrate on romantic possibilities, so probably not.

WHAT DO YOU THINK SHE THOUGHT OF YOU?

I’M ALWAYS positive and smiling, so she might have thought I was a happy, funny man.

WOULD YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS LIKE HER?

MY SONS were excited I was going on the date, so they were as disappointed as me that I didn’t find a match. I guess it’s just lucky for all the single ladies of a certain age in South-east london that I’m still on the market!
