6 held after death at nursery
SIX women have been arrested in connection with an incident at a nursery in which a one-year-old boy died.
A criminal investigation was launched after the boy’s death on December 9 and a subsequent Ofsted inspection.
Fairytales Day Nursery, in Bourne Street, Dudley, West Midlands, which had been rated ‘good’ in 2019, was shut, along with other linked premises, on December 14, with the education watchdog saying that ‘children may be at risk of harm’
West Midlands Police said three women, aged 20, 23 and 50, were arrested on December 16 on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter. They were subsequently released on bail. A further three women, aged 37, 51 and 53, were detained on Wednesday – two on suspicion of corporate manslaughter and one on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter.
Police said a post-mortem examination had taken place but more tests were needed to find out the exact cause of death.
