CRIME-SOLVING CLERIC
Father Brown, 1.45pm, BBC1
MARK WILLIAMS is, to many, Arthur Weasley in the Harry Potter films, or perhaps you remember him as Jesse in The Fast Show, shouting from his shed what he’ll be mostly eating this week. Since 2013, he has made G.K. Chesterton’s astute priest his own, and today sees the launch of his tenth series of light-hearted mysteries, set in the idyllic Cotswolds countryside. When a local aristocrat is murdered in his bed, gravelly Inspector Mallory is even more grumpy than usual and is in no mood for the ‘opinions of a pontificating priest!’ Despite the insult, Father Brown is an oasis of calm as he uncovers the disturbing root of Mallory’s temper, and finds that the detective is in desperate need of some pastoral care, as well as the unique sleuthing skills of the genteel man of the cloth. Continues weekly.
