HARRY has admitted he was ‘probably bigoted’ before he met Meghan, adding that he ‘didn’t see what he now sees’.

His comments are revealed in a trailer for a US TV interview, in which Harry repeats allegations that UK Press coverage about Meghan had been tainted by racism. He claims she was treated differently to Prince William’s wife Kate and Queen Consort Camilla when she joined the family.

A clip from an interview for CBS show 60 Minutes shows him saying: ‘What Meghan had to go through was similar in some part to what Kate and what Camilla went through... But then you add in the race element.’

The Duke of Sussex claimed UK newspapers immediately ‘jumped’ on the ethnicity of Meghan whose father is white and mother black. He added: ‘I had no idea the British Press were so bigoted. Hell, I was probably bigoted before the relationship with Meghan.’

Harry added: ‘Put it this way, I didn’t see what I now see.’

The prince has previously been accused of racism after footage emerged of him calling a fellow soldier a ‘P***’ at Sandhurst military academy, forcing him to apologise in 2009. In his memoir Spare, he claims he had not realised the word was a racial slur. He also caused outrage in 2005 when he was pictured wearing a Nazi uniform at a fancy dress party.

The CBS interview is due to be screened tomorrow night before the book is officially launched on Tuesday. It is one of three TV interviews Harry has conducted to plug his memoir with a special due to be shown on ITV1 and ITVX tomorrow at 9pm and another with Good Morning America on Monday.
