THANKS AND FAREWELL TO ALL MY READERS

THIS is my last regular column for the Daily Mail. After sharing the pleasures of gardening with you for 14 years, it’s time for me to say goodbye.

My own poor old plot has become increasingly needy over the years — and my health could do with pepping up, too. Every task takes longer, but I’ve learnt to enjoy working at a more gentle pace and will continue to do so in retirement.

It has been such pleasure and a privilege to occupy this slot for so long. I have loved the feedback from readers and have often learnt new tricks from you — so many thanks to one and all. Gardening is one of life’s great pleasures. Long may it continue to be so.
