Jesse’s history lesson

- DAVID KENT

JESSE MARSCH has urged his Leeds players to show fight or risk more FA Cup humiliation in tomorrow’s third-round tie at Championship strugglers Cardiff. The Leeds boss needed no reminding yesterday of Cardiff’s famous upset at the same stage in 2002 when the then third-tier side won 2-1 against Leeds, who were top of the Premier League. marsch said: ‘I know the history of us losing at Cardiff and we expect they will be very spirited. We know 6,000 fans are going down so we want to put the best team we can on the pitch.’ Leeds have a wretched FA Cup record. Winners just once in 1972, they have reached the fifth round only three times since 2002 and lost in the third round in each of the last five seasons. marsch said: ‘It’s about expecting the best from Cardiff and being ready for that. It will be a cup fight. Angus Kinnear (Leeds’ chief executive) spoke to me last week and said maybe we should focus on having a good FA Cup run. I said: message received.’ Defender max Wober could make his Leeds debut after joining from red Bull salzburg for a reported £10million on Tuesday.
