LAST summer, we received a plea from Sid Anning of Rochester in Kent, who was looking for friends from Class 1B1 at Hereson Secondary School in Ramsgate in Kent. ‘These young gentlemen and I were then aged 11, and will be 80 next year. I’ve been friends with some of them all my life, but would be extremely grateful if you could find any missing ones, although sadly I’ve forgotten the names. We aim to hold a reunion in 2023; it might be our last chance to all get together again.’ We heard from Diana Bourne, who gave Sid contacts from the same year at Hereson: her husband Ralph and his pal George Greenstreet, whom Sid remembered. Classmate Ron Alley (fourth from left in the back row) got in touch and put names to many faces, and we had a letter from Ernest Pay, another who’s keen on attending the reunion in April.
