Bake Off’s Sue reveals: I’ve got ADHD
SHE shocked fans by revealing she had a brain tumour while presenter of Great British Bake Off.
Now Sue Perkins has announced she has been diagnosed with ADHD – attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
The condition is linked to anxiety, restlessness, impulsiveness and problems with concentration and sleeping. But Ms Perkins, 53, said the ADHD diagnosis had given her clarity, adding that everything now made sense.
She revealed she had the disorder on Twitter in response to a post by guitarist Tom Gray, founder of the indie rock band Gomez, who said he was ‘creeping towards an ADHD diagnosis’.
Ms Perkins replied that she had ‘fully crept’. She explained: ‘Once I had the diagnosis, suddenly everything made sense – to me and those who love me.’
Other celebrities with ADHD include chef Jamie Oliver, I’m A Celebrity host
Ant McPartlin, singer Lily Allen and comedian Russell Brand.
Ms Perkins, who was a Bake Off host from 2010 to 2016, revealed in 2015 that she had been diagnosed with a benign brain tumour which may affect her ability to have children. She said later:
‘I don’t know if I would have gone on to have children. But as soon as someone says you can’t have something, you want it more than anything. Sometimes it screws up my hormones. I have various tests now to make sure the side effects aren’t too onerous.’
