Let’s go WTO

-

IN ITS effort to demonstrate to member countries the disadvantages of leaving the single market, the EU has used every petty measure to make trade with the UK difficult.

We have not behaved in the same way and let Irish trucks use the UK as a land bridge from holyhead to Dover without imposing EU-style checks on the contents of drivers’ sandwiches. Taoiseach Leo varadkar admits errors in imposing the Northern Ireland Protocol’s ridiculous requirements, only to be accused by other EU leaders of breaking ranks to let the UK off the hook.

Theresa May said a bad deal would be worse than no deal before she went on to negotiate — sorry, acquiesce — an appalling deal that Boris Johnson did little to improve.

Is it not time to look at withdrawing from our deal with the EU and examine what trading under WTO rules would be like?
