Wet room or walk-in shower?

-

IF NEW Year is bringing thoughts of a better, safer bathroom, then a wet room (right) does exactly what it says on the tin — it’s a whole room for getting wet in! There is no step or lip into the shower, so access is level with your slip-resistant flooring. The wet room is usually tiled or has waterproof boards from floor to ceiling, with a central drain within the shower area, that may or may not have an enclosure. Underfloor tanking is used to drain the water with no visible tray on show.

A walk-in shower also does what it says — you can walk in without having to step over the side, greatly reducing the risk of trips or falls. The simplest type is set up as a stand-alone shower pod with a lowaccess ‘tray’ at the bottom that allows the water to drain away. For those with serious mobility issues, walk-in showers that have an enclosed area and seating, as well as grab rails or handles, offer a very supportive solution.

If you decide to opt for a walk-in shower, one can be easily incorporated into your existing bathroom.
