ARGYLE DRAW A BLANK

- By ADAM SHERGOLD

PLYMOUTH spurned the chance to move seven points clear at the top as they were held to a goalless draw at BOLTON. Nearest challengers Sheffield Wednesday and Ipswich were playing in the FA Cup, but Argyle could not take advantage and were perhaps fortunate to escape with a point. Bolton’s Elias Kachunga struck a post and Plymouth ended with 10 men after captain Joe Edwards picked up a second yellow.

Sir Alex Ferguson watched from the stands and Bolton boss Ian Evatt said: ‘It would have been nice to score in Fergie time, but we couldn’t quite seal the deal.’ BRISTOL ROVERS kept up their play-off push with a 2-1 win at CAMBRIDGE. Having trailed early on to Sam Smith’s header, Joey Barton’s side rallied with goals from Josh Coburn and Scott Sinclair to put them within three points of the top six.

CHARLTON prepared for their Carabao Cup quarter-final at Manchester United with a 2-1 win over LINCOLN.

Scott Fraser claimed a goal and an assist for Corey Blackett-Taylor to no doubt get his name underlined on Erik ten Hag’s scouting report.

MORECAMBE beat CHELTENHAM 2-1 to lift themselves out of the relegation zone. Jensen Weir and Kieran Phillips were on target for the Shrimps.
