Public Image Ltd are fighting to represent

Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest.

The post- punk band, formed in 1978, have entered the song Hawa i i , described as a ‘love letter’ to Lydon’s wife of nearly 50 years, Nora, who has Alzheimer’s disease.

PiL are among six entries vying to represent the country in Liverpool in May. They will face Wild Youth, Adgy, Connolly, Leila Jane and K Muni & ND in a televised contest on February 3. Lydon, 66, pictured – who was born in London to Irish parents and was known as Johnny Rotten in his heyday – said the song was ‘dedicated to everyone going through tough times on the journey of life, with the person they care for the most’.
