Poland plotting shock move for Gerrard
STEVEN GERRARD has emerged as a shock candidate to become Poland’s new head coach. Gerrard has spent the last two months re-energising himself after losing his job at Aston Villa, and enjoyed the opportunity to spend Christmas with his family. He will carefully consider his next move, given the way things ended at Villa Park. Gerrard arrived in the Midlands after doing a superb job at Rangers, where he led them to the Scottish Premier League title in 2021. The prospect of him leading Poland to Euro 2024, however, has come out of left field.
A report by Polish publication Meczyki last night indicated that the national federation had approached Gerrard about succeeding Czeslaw Michniewicz, whose contract was not renewed after Poland were eliminated from the World Cup by France in the last 16. Herve Renard, who was in charge of Saudi Arabia at the World Cup, is also reported to be under consideration.
