Death riddle of 90s supermodel, 56
SHE grabbed the world’s attention when she appeared naked alongside fellow Nineties supermodels for one of the most iconic animal rights campaigns of all time.
Supermodel Tatjana Patitz – who graced the world’s catwalks and fashion magazine covers throughout the Eighties and Nineties – died yesterday aged 56 from a mystery illness. Her New York agent confirmed the former supermodel passed away in Santa Barbara, California, where she lived.
German-born Patitz – one of a group of elite supermodels including Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista and Cindy Crawford – also starred in George Michael’s Freedom music video. Anna Wintour, global editorial director of magazine Vogue, said Patitz was ‘always the European symbol of chic. She was far less visible than her peers – more mysterious, more grown-up, more unattainable – and that had its own appeal.’
Patitz was at the height of her fame when she appeared naked in the 1994 animal rights Peta advert.
