He’s no Alan Carr but he did make me laugh once or twice

-

DATING PAST

I WAS in a relationship for four years until I was 23. since then, I have been dating on and off but nothing serious. wherever I am, I’ll always check the dating apps to see if there’s anyone in the area — you never know.

PRE-DATE NERVES?

MY FRIENDS were convinced I would be nervous, but I wasn’t. I framed the experience as something I’ll look back on and share with loved ones. It was pouring with rain, so I wore trainers instead of heels, with fake leather trousers and a green jumper.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS?

IT’S so awkward being British — do you shake hands, hug or go in for kisses when you meet someone new? fortunately, marco announced he’s Italian and they do the double kiss — one on each cheek. physically he wasn’t my usual type — he has that slim boy-band look — and I didn’t get that ‘omG I want to marry you’ feeling. But I could tell he’s a sweet and friendly person.

EASY TO TALK TO?

YES and that’s a rarity on a date — guys can be so drippy. they don’t understand the art of conversation and give you nothing to go with. Luckily that wasn’t the case with marco. I discovered he’s from a village outside rome, a city I love. he’s funny, too. I’m not talking Alan Carr level of humour, but he did make me laugh.

EMBARRASSING MOMENTS?

WE WERE in talk-talk-talk mode and had to ask the waiter to come back on four occasions. I’d have loved the prawn curry, but I couldn’t face the prospect of de-shelling in an intimate dating environment.

DID SPARKS FLY?

IN summArY, more friends than lovers. I didn’t want to pounce on him — sorry, marco.

SEE HIM AGAIN?

I’d see marco again purely on a friendship basis. we didn’t exchange numbers but did hug goodbye.

WHAT DO YOU THINK HE THOUGHT OF YOU?

we were laughing a lot, so I doubt he thought I was hell on earth. I always think if you want to cut short a date, then you don’t order a dessert . . . but we had a lovely creme brulee together.

WOULD YOUR FRIENDS LIKE HIM?

mY frIends would agree that marco is a nice guy, but they’d say, ‘Amy, you’d walk all over him.’ I need someone a little more fiery and independent.
