Dysfunctional royals

-

PRINCe Harry’s book and interviews only confirm that the monarchy, based on an accident of birth, wealth, power and inequality, is dysfunctional.

How could you survive being bowed to, agreed with and pandered to from birth without it having a devastating effect on your grip on reality?

Wearing uniforms with medals that were not earned devalues those of brave servicemen and women.

Handing out gongs to Tv stars, actors, sporting favourites and lollipop ladies is a pathetic echo of the imagined age of chivalry. None of this faded pageantry is relevant to Britain in the 21st century.

I wish Harry and Megan good luck, but I’m afraid the relentless battering they are receiving will continue unabated. No one is allowed to break ranks.
