POULTER LASHES OUT OVER BIRTHDAY SNUB

- RIATH AL-SAMARRAI

A SURREAL new front has emerged in golf’s civil war after Ian Poulter accused Ryder Cup Europe’s Twitter account of snubbing the birthday of his fellow LIV rebel Sergio Garcia. Poulter lashed out at the account for failing to wish a happy birthday to Garcia, who was 43 on Monday. In reply to a tweet showing Francesco Molinari’s ‘incredible touch’, Poulter wrote: ‘What’s really an “incredible touch” is the players that helped build the Ryder Cup Europe brand. You just can’t bring yourself to say a simple happy birthday. Sergio Garcia’s birthday yesterday. Unfortunately this says so much.’ Poulter, who turned 47 on Tuesday, replied to claims of a directive by DP World Tour chief Keith Pelley. With a laughing emoji, he added: ‘Just highlighting the orders that have been given from the top down #pettypelley.’
