Make-up uses toxic chemicals
TOP make-up brands are selling cosmetics containing cancer- causing chemicals, a report reveals.
Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) have been dubbed ‘forever chemicals’ as they do not break down. Studies have linked PFAS, which are used to smooth the skin or improve the texture of products, to infertility, birth defects, high cholesterol levels and even cancers, including kidney, testicular and ovarian.
The BBC found PFAS in products by L’Oreal’s Urban Decay, Revolution, Inglot and more. The molecules enter the bloodstream and water sources, where they contaminate ecosystems and poison fish.
L’Oreal told the BBC its task of phasing out PFAS use is ‘well under way’. A Revolution spokesman said they had also begun stopping their use. Inglot did not respond to requests for comment.
