Wolves move for Dawson angers Moyes

- By JON WEST

DAVID MOYES says Wolves’ attempts to sign Craig Dawson have destabilised West Ham’s preparations for today’s vital clash at Molineux.

And the Hammers manager joked he might lodge a bid for one of Julen Lopetegui’s players in retaliation.

The episode is no laughing matter for the Scot though, with the loser of today’s match certain to spend the rest of the weekend in the relegation zone. Centre back Dawson, 32, is originally from the North West and has been looking to leave West Ham for a while, because he wants to move nearer home for family reasons.

‘I might bid for one of them after the game and see how it goes,’ said Moyes, whose side begin the weekend above the relegation zone only on goal difference.

‘Is it destabilising? By the way it is, yeah. Let’s be fair, Wolves tried to buy Daws in the summer and we said no at that time. ‘We’ve had another offer from Wolves. At the moment, we’ve not accepted it.

‘We’ve got four other centre halves so we’re pretty well covered in that area.’

West Ham forward Michail Antonio has also been linked with a Molineux move, but Moyes — who should have another striker in Gianluca Scamacca back today — said that would not be happening. ‘We’ve had no offer and no enquiry so I don’t know where that’s grown legs from,’ he said. ‘Mick’s really important for us and has a two-year contract, so he’s here for a while.’
