Crumpet heaven

-

WAITROSE may have stopped selling Warburtons crumpets (Mail), but there’s nothing more satisfying on a cold day. They’re best toasted in front of an open fire and then devoured with butter running down your chin.

P. WILSON, Chester. THE best way to cook crumpets is with a grill or wood-burning fire, not a toaster.

Warm on one side then turn over, butter and add a slab of cheddar. Grill again until the cheese runs down the sides.

Name and address supplied. AS A Yorkshire lad born and bred, I was brought up on pikelets warmed under the grill and smothered in butter.

The term ‘crumpet’ has a rather different meaning in the North.

PETER MOxON, Rotherham, S. Yorks.
