Parker off the mark at Bruges
SCOTT PARKER got his first point as manager of Club Bruges at the second time of asking with a 1-1 draw at home to Anderlecht yesterday. Parker, 42, was sacked by Bournemouth four months ago after a 9-0 defeat at Liverpool and took over the Belgian side on December 31. Bruges lost his first game at Genk but took the lead yesterday through Casper Nielsen before Brandon Mechele’s own goal gifted mid-table Anderlecht a point. In Spain, Barcelona were crowned Super Cup champions after goals from Gavi, Robert Lewandowski and Pedri earned them a 3-1 win over Real Madrid in Saudi Arabia yesterday. Karim Benzema scored late on for Real.
In Serie A, a penalty from Mattia Zaccagni and a Felipe Anderson strike gave Lazio a 2-0 win at Sassuolo before fellow top-four chasers Atalanta hammered Salernitana 8-2 with seven different scorers. Atalanta fired five goals in the first half, with Chelsea academy graduate Jeremie Boga and Ademola Lookman on target. Lookman added another in the second half before subs Ederson and Nadir Zortea netted. Boulaye Dia and Hans Nicolussi Caviglia scored either side of the break for Salernitana.
