Ref discharged after being knocked out

REFEREE Sam Purkiss has been discharged from hospital after being knocked out during the 5-0 victory for SWINDON TOWN over GRIMSBY on Saturday.

the official was hit on the head by a clearance in the 11th minute at the County Ground and after receiving treatment was carried off on a stretcher. he was taken to hospital with concussion but allowed home later in the day.

‘Great news, and we wish Sam a quick recovery,’ Swindon posted on twitter.

the game was notable otherwise for the return of Charlie Austin, 33, who scored the opener as Swindon moved up to sixth.
