JACOB BrONOWSkI (1908-1974). The Polish-born British mathematic­ian and intellectu­al hosted the series The Ascent Of Man, described by the BBC as ‘one of the landmarks of documentar­y television’. Across the 13 episodes, he filmed in locations ranging from Easter Island to Auschwitz — where many of his family had been murdered. DANNY kAYE (1911-1987).
