DARREN HARRIOTT: BLACK LABEL, 11.15PM, RADIO 4,

-

DARREN HARRIOTT is a stand-up comedian whose TV gigs include Live At The Apollo, 8 Out Of 10 Cats and the recent series of Outsiders. Darren, who’s black, took pretty much any work that he could get while working his way up through the comedy ranks, including being a bouncer. In the third episode of this autobiographical series, Birmingham native Darren recalls the fights and insults he would face, the sixth sense bouncers get for trouble, and the unexpected camaraderie he found on the nightclub doors.

JEAN-PHILIPPE RIOPY (pictured) spent his childhood in a cult that banned music. He found a piano and taught himself to play it, but was beaten and punished by cult members. At the age of 18 he ran away, living on the streets of Paris and LA, before eventually finding work in a piano shop in the UK. His career as a pianist and composer blossomed, and today he joins SAM HUGHES (1PM, SCALA RADIO) for a live session of his recent works.
