Once upon a time, we’re told,

Our Earth was Paradise, And all was warmth and happiness, No darkness, hate or vice. But over time, it seems that we

Have fallen far from grace, And now our Earth resembles . . . well . . . Let’s say a warmer place! And those there are who shake their heads, Declare they can’t see how We’ll ever find the path which leads

Us back to Eden now. And yet, we have good reason

To lighten our despair, For Heaven’s open portals Are around us everywhere. Perhaps on the allotment Midst cabbages and kale, Sharing nature’s bounty With butterfly and snail. A mug of warmth and comfort

In a dreary, tiring day, The hope wrapped in a rainbow

As it soars above the grey. While helping hands and loving hugs

Ignite that inner glow, Assuring us that Paradise Is nearer than we know. Tricia Sturgeon, Mundesley, Norfolk.
