Hunt video makes him a mocha-ry...
THE Chancellor’s attempt to explain rising inflation with a stack of empty coffee cups has been mocked online.
A social media video showing Jeremy Hunt ordering a flat white before explaining why costs are rising was criticised for its apparent patronising tone and overuse of paper cups that had been scribbled on.
The Chancellor said factors contributing to inflation include the post-pandemic supply chain squeeze, the Ukrainian war and increased energy prices.
He explained that high inflation means ‘unemployment going up, businesses failing, the pound in your pocket worth less than it used to be’.
In response, Nottingham University politics professor Steven Fielding said: ‘I hope he recycled all those cups he wasted.’ Meanwhile Liberal Democrat Treasury spokesman Sarah Olney called the clip: ‘A Mr Beanesque video from the same clueless party that crashed the economy and sent mortgage bills spiralling.
‘What’s even more shocking is that Jeremy Hunt airbrushed one of the main causes of economic pain – Liz Truss’s disastrous minibudget – that resulted in the biggest tax hike for a generation.’
